John Waters

John Waters boasts a distinguished 50-year career, renowned for his standout performances in the film Breaker Morant and TV series such as Rush, All the Rivers Run, Rake. Also, his notable two-decade tenure on Play School. His extensive stage repertoire spans from iconic productions like Hair, Godspell, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Water has also had memorable roles in musicals such as The Rocky Horror Show, They’re Playing Our Song alongside Jackie Weaver, and The Sound of Music. John is also a talented musician, having toured Australia extensively with his one man show, Looking Through a Glass Onion. In 2006, he captivated audiences nationwide in The Woman in Black alongside Brett Tucker.

Daniel MacPherson

Daniel MacPherson’s illustrious career spans over 25 years, showcasing his talent across film, TV, and stage worldwide. From Neighbours to The Bill, and striking performances in Godspell, he’s made a mark. With international hits like Strike Back and City Homicide, MacPherson’s versatility shines. Likewise, he is known for hosted Dancing with the Stars for seven seasons. Now, after a successful run in 2:22 – A Ghost Story, he’s set to star alongside Russell Crowe in Land of Bad, continuing to captivate audiences globally.

What is The Woman in Black about?

Originally published in 1983, Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black stands as a cornerstone of gothic literature. Immersing readers in the chilling atmosphere of Eel Marsh House, nestled in the quaint market town in Northern England, the novel exemplifies the genre of horror and Gothic storytelling.

Narrated in the first person by lawyer Arthur Kipps (Waters), it starts with him too disturbed to recount to his family the supernatural encounter he had early in his career. He engages a skeptical actor (MacPherson) to help him tell his terrifying story. The tale unfolds as they reenact his assignment as a young solicitor to oversee the funeral of Mrs. Alice Drablow, a client of his law firm.

Throughout his journey, Kipps encounters numerous individuals who seem hesitant or incapable of divulging the secrets surrounding Eel Marsh House. However, it is Kipps himself who ultimately confronts the spectral figure of the Woman in Black. This setting in motion the unravelling of the haunted past of the estate…
