Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs opens exclusively in Sydney this November

Experience one of the greatest collections of its kind in this Australian-first exhibition

In cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs, will open at the Australian Museum on 18 November, the largest cultural exhibition to visit Australia in over a decade.

Exclusive to Sydney, Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs is an interactive museum experience that features over 180 priceless artefacts and one-of-a-kind, never before seen ornate golden treasures from the tomb of King Ramses II, including relics such as sarcophagi, animal mummies, magnificent jewellery, spectacular royal masks and exquisite amulets.

Following record setting attendance and sellouts in Paris, Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs will showcase will showcase the life and achievements of King Ramses II, widely recognized as Ramses the Great, offering a glimpse into his remarkable legacy. As the longest reigning pharaoh in Ancient Egyptian history, Ramses the Great came to epitomise the power and wealth of Ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom period when Egyptian civilisation was at its height. Ramses was known as a mighty warrior who secured peace with his neighbours, led an extensive building campaign that included scores of gigantic monuments to himself, and is believed to have fathered over 100 children. 

Utilising immersive technology, Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs will also feature a virtual reality experience, taking visitors on a whirlwind tour of two of Ramses’ most impressive monuments: the Tomb of Queen Nefertari, his favourite Royal Consort, and the temples of Abu Simbel.
