PRAISE BE! CASEY DONOVAN CONFIRMED TO STAR IN SISTER ACT
It’s time to take a trip to the habit! Sister Act the musical is coming to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre this August. And they have added a very special guest to the run.
Joining the heavenly production of Sister Act the Musical as lead, is the iconic Casey Donovan in her biggest role to date! Likewise, adding her own spin to Mother Superior will be the beloved Genevieve Lemon.

Casey Donovan is known as one of Australia’s most versatile entertainers. She has left her mark not only in music but also across stage, screen, presenting, and writing. With a plethora of awards and nominations, including accolades from the Deadly Awards and ARIA #1 Award. Donovan has also attained Double & Triple Platinum status as a recording artist.
Her theatrical repertoire includes captivating performances in productions such as The Sapphires and The Flowerchildren. Her early start begun on Australian Idol, progressing to roles in TV hits like StreetSmart and How To Stay Married. Casey’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Culminating in her triumphant win as Queen of the Jungle in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Casey Donovan continues to captivate audiences with her range of talent.
Genevieve Lemon
Genevieve Lemon’s career spans over four decades, gracing the stages of premier Australian productions with her exceptional talent. From stellar performances in classics like Steaming, Billy Elliot and Steel Magnolias to iconic roles in modern hits such as Priscilla and Queen of the Desert. Genevieve’s has shown her versatility off stage aswell, with memorable appearances in acclaimed films like Sweetie, Top of the Lake, The Piano, Ticket to Paradise, Colin from Accounts and Prisoner, Here Out West. This earning her accolades from industry heavyweights like Jane Campion. Her talents have not gone unnoticed as she has received awards include Helpmann, Green Room and Sydney Theatre Critics awards for Best Actress in a Feature Film from the Sydney Film Critics’ Circle for Sweetie and for Best Actress in a Musical for Billy Elliot.
What is Sister Act the Musical about?
Take the iconic film with Whoopi Goldberg and add original tunes by the legendary Tony® and 8-time Oscar® award winning Alan Menken known for his work behind Disney classics like Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. With a soundtrack infused with Motown, soul, and disco vibes, this show promises pure joy.
Disco diva Deloris is put into police protect after witnessing a murder. However, she is placed in the most unlikely of places to be shielded from danger – a convent! What unfolds next is even more unexpected. As she reluctantly helps the struggling choir, Deloris not only helps her fellow sisters find their voices but also rediscovers her own. It’s a heartwarming journey of redemption, sisterhood, and finding your true self in the most unlikely of places.
