West Coast Eagles top the charts, record most club members in the AFL
The final AFL membership numbers for 2020 are in...
The West Coast Eagles have come out on top, recording their highest club members tally of all-time.
In a year where fan support is more important than ever, the driving force behind our game have rallied around their clubs, despite the disrupted season and impact on crowd attendance.
Membership numbers are through the roof, just shy of last year’s record, with a whopping five clubs breaking their all-time numbers.
The West Coast Eagles have pipped Richmond, surpassing 100,000 members for the very first time, with 100,766 loyal fans signed up, the most in the AFL.
West Coast Eagles fans have been fortunate enough to see their side take to Optus Stadium seven times this season, albeit with reduced capacity.
The Stadium has been instrumental in helping to keep the AFL season alive, as well as becoming a fortress for the Eagles in 2020, who remain undefeated at Optus Stadium this year.
What a sight it was to see crowds returning to Optus Stadium!
Carlton and St Kilda also broke their membership records in 2020, a remarkable achievement given they have been forced away from their home ground at Marvel Stadium for most of the season.
The same can be said for the GWS GIANTS, again forced out of their own fortress at GIANTS Stadium for a lot of the year, and still managing to post their highest member tally yet.
While all footy fans are dreaming of the day when we can be part of a high energy, full capacity crowd again, the support that members have shown their clubs this season is remarkable.
The West Coast Eagles are now the most dominant outfit off the field this season, but can they harness their support and go all the way once again in 2020? We will have to wait for the big dance at The Gabba – now just over a month away.
