A Century in the Making

Originally opened as the King’s Theatre in 1925, Anita’s Theatre has transformed from a bustling cinema to a roller-skating rink and is now a cornerstone of live performance in Thirroul, NSW.

After a major restoration in 2007, the theatre was renamed Anita’s Theatre in honour of the late wife of Wollongong businessman John Comelli, who led the venue’s revival. Since then, it’s welcomed some of the biggest names both international and local in music and comedy, including Cold Chisel, Of Monsters & Men, Missy Higgins, Macy Gray, Midnight Oil, Steve Vai, The Animals, Kitty Flanagan, Urzila Carlson, Arj Barker and more.

In the past three years, Anita’s Theatre has welcomed over 160,000 fans, hosted nearly 300 shows, and showcased 82% Aussie homegrown talent!
