Spotlight On: Sydney’s iconic State Theatre

One of Sydney’s most iconic, historic and beloved venues, the State Theatre is home to an array of events from theatre and music, to film and ballet, comedy and more!


The State Theatre is always brimming with a stellar lineup of live events throughout the year! No matter what flavour of entertainment is your favourite, there’s something for everyone.

The State Theatre opened on the 7th of June 1929 and over the years has continually redefined the standard of excellence in the live entertainment venue space, solidifying itself as an icon of Sydney.

In the 70s, State Theatre showed blockbusters like The Godfather and Jaws, and E.T.- The Extra-Terrestrial in the 80s. The 90s saw State Theatre stage musicals such as Evita, The Secret Garden and Anything Goes. The Noughties brought us some of the world’s biggest acts to the State Theatre stage such as Cyndi Lauper, Tim Minchin and more. While the 2010s saw red carpet premieres for Game of Thrones, Skyfall, Les Miserables and Django Unchained. As well as world class musical acts including Prince, The Seekers, Tina Arena, Air Supply, Florence and the Machine, John Legend, Julie Andrews, and traditional English pantos Snow White, Aladdin and Cinderella. The State Theatre has no plans of slowing down, with so many great acts to look forward to!
