From Las Vegas to London and Berlin, now it’s finally Australia’s turn…Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike Live is on its way.
*UPDATE: The Melbourne season of Magic Mike Live, originally scheduled to launch in May 2020, has been rescheduled. Changes have been made to the performance schedule, and we will now open at Birrarung Marr in June 2021. The Sydney season will proceed as planned from November 2020, and Brisbane and Perth remain on waitlist.
By now you’ve seen the films (probably more than a few times), but the live show is an evening you have to experience for yourself. Based on the hit movies Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL and conceived and co-directed by Channing Tatum himself, Magic Mike Live has been described as nothing less than a thrilling, sexy, live dance and acrobatic spectacular.
It will make its first Australian stop in Melbourne, touching down at a brand new, bespoke venue at Birrarung Marr from Tuesday 26 May before landing in Sydney in mid-November. Take it from us, it is one of the most unique, immersive live-entertainment experiences in the world.
“From the first moment we thought up Magic Mike Live, we always dreamt of bringing it to Australia,” creator and director Channing Tatum says, “The movies did so amazingly here, we knew we had to figure out how to raise our game. It took a few years for it to all come together but…man…did it come together. We have something planned for Australia that is going to blow your minds.”
While the Australian production will pull together all the best parts of the three productions from around the world, the one-of-a-kind venue dreamt up by the team is sure to make Melbourne’s production extra special.
In cooperation with Het Spiegelpaleis in Belgium, the production will be housed in the world’s largest Spiegeltent – a two-story fully-customized, 600-seat venue where every single detail has been meticulously curated by Channing and the creative team, especially for Australia fans.
Magic Mike film choreographer Alison Faulk (whose other credits include working with Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Missy Elliott, and P!NK to name a few) is not only choreographer but also co-director of the production – so you know you’re in good hands.
“There’s really nothing else like it in the world,” Faulk says. “It is the most beautiful, special place for people to experience the show and has allowed us to do things with our performers that just haven’t been possible anywhere else in the world.”
With a cast of 20 world-class performers and 15 of the most talented male dancers in the world, Magic Mike Live unfolds in front of, behind and above the audience, enveloping patrons in an unforgettable, 360-degree, whirlwind of dance, comedy and extraordinary acrobatics.
A $40 backstage Meet & Greet add-on is available with any ticket purchase and includes a professional photograph, a Magic Mike cocktail, a souvenir program, a VIP lanyard and a backstage meet & greet with select members of the cast immediately following the show.
Tatum is the director and creator of the show and does not appear in it, but as Tatum often says, he “can’t wait until he’s in Magic Mike shape” so he can perform in the show. He also loves to surprise audience members by turning up at shows every now and then, so do keep an eye out.
Magic Mike Live is a first-class entertainment experience based on the hit films Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL. The show features the hottest and most talented men from around the world performing in front of, behind, above and all around the audience.
No. It is a high-end production show in a state-of-the-art venue with some of the most talented dancers from around the world performing amazing choreography amidst over-the-top production values. It’s a place where audience members can feel what it’s like to exist in a world where their desires are heard…a place where they feel comfortable and proud.
Guests must be at least 18 years old to attend the show. Patrons will be asked to present valid photographic id.
Magic Mike Live is 90 minutes long.
Audience members are never guaranteed to be selected for the audience participation numbers, but wearing trousers certainly increases your chances of being pulled on stage. There is no formal dress code for the show, wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, sexy, and ready to have a good time.
The production does use strobe lighting as well as theatrical smoke throughout the performance.
Magic Mike Live will land in Australia in May 2020. Tickets to the Melbourne and Sydney seasons are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.
