Meet Marius from Les Miserables

Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Les Miserables will open at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre in March, 2015.

The musical is the longest running in history and has been captivating and inspiring audiences for decades. Following a hugely successful Melbourne season, the show will hit Sydney and audiences are in for a treat. As the excitement in Sydney builds, we sat down with Euan Doidge, who plays Marius, to find out more about the amazing production of Les Miserables.

Ticketmaster: Les Miserables is the longest-running musical of all time. What do you think makes it so popular?

Euan Doidge: The truth in the story! People become attached to this musical because of its raw quality and uniqueness in style. It forces people to focus only on the story and that in itself is spectacular. I like to describe it as life-onstage and I believe that is why it is so popular.

TM: Do you recall the first time you saw Les Miserables? What were your thoughts?

ED: I had never seen the show before but I had heard the music growing up and absolutely loved it.

TM: You must love playing Marius. What do you like best about that role?

ED: I really do love playing Marius. He has such a beautiful nature about him and I think that is why he is so lovable. The thing I like best about the role is the naivety and awkwardness about him; he lives everything in the moment and for me that is such a treat to perform every night.

TM: Do you have a favourite moment in Les Miserables?

ED: My favourite moment would have to be One Day More, the closing of Act One. It’s such a powerful moment in the show not only as a performance but as an integral part of the story.

TM: You are coming off a very successful Melbourne season, are you excited to take the production to Sydney?

ED: I’m really looking forward to coming to Sydney. We have had such a wonderful time, the response has been incredible and starting the show off in Melbourne was just awesome but like anything change is always good and I can’t wait to get to Sydney.

TM: What should the audience expect from the production of Les Miserables at the Capitol Theatre?

ED: A show that will hopefully leave the audience in awe, or if anything inspired.

TM: If you could play any part in Les Miserables (aside from Marius) what would it be?

ED: Eponine of course! She is a killer role and I think would be so much fun to play.

TM: Thanks for joining us Euan and best of luck with the upcoming Sydney season of Les Miserables.

ED: Thank you for having me!
