Martha Wainwright looks ahead to Oz tour in March

Martha Wainwright has spoken about her upcoming Australian shows, revealing details on how she’ll be working in new material this coming March.

It’s been a year since the much-loved, Canadian-American folk songstress toured Oz and now she returns this year with new album, Goodnight City, in the bag.

Goodnight City is Wainright’s first solo record in four years and is said to be set apart from her previous solo efforts.

“With this record, I try to be a little bit more forward gazing and write about myself to an extent than more through the stories and images,” she told Music Feeds.

“[The songs] are really forward and outward, they are looking into the future. Maybe in the past, my music was a little more introverted in terms of the songwriting.”

On her upcoming shows, she said, “We will try to make it sound like the new record.”

Adding, “In my shows, I will always put a certain amount of solo stuff stuff on the guitar. It’s a band show but it’ll have some quieter bits.”

We’ve got tickets for Martha Wainright’s Thirroul, NSW show at Anita’s Theatre on Tuesday 14 March – head to Ticketmaster.com.au to book now.
