Full House at Metricon Stadium

Metricon Stadium set a new attendance record in Round 16 of the AFL Season, with a sold out crowd of more than 24,000 attending the Gold Coast SUNS v Collingwood on Saturday July 5.

The match was the first time the venue had been sold out and highlights the rising popularity and impact of the SUNS in Queensland and in the AFL competition. There was a strong interstate contingent with a lot of Collingwood fans flying north for the winter, but the local crowd was just as loud and energetic.

The SUNS held on for a nail-biting 5-point victory, which was lauded as one of the young side’s best given the mid-game injury to captain Gary Ablett and the depleted interchange bench. The victory saw the Gold Coast SUNS take yet another step toward what they hope will be their maiden finals appearance.

Ticketmaster has provided ticketing and marketing services for Metricon Stadium since its inception in 2011, the year the SUNS joined the AFL. Our local Queensland office has enjoyed its involvement with the new venue and is proud to see the SUNS selling out their venue and on the verge of a finals appearance.
