Q&A: Lior Suchard – The Master Mentalist

Lior Suchard has earned a reputation around the world as a Master Mentalist. The supernatural entertainer has been boggling the minds of people the world over with his unique and amazing performances that combine mind reading, thought influencing and telekinesis.

Anyone who has seen Lior Suchard, whether it be live or on television, knows that he is capable of unexplainable feats. The mentalist has appeared on many television programs and he has stumped many of the world’s biggest celebrities with his skill and intuition, including Gerard Butler, Kim Kardashian, Jay Leno and our very own Steve Waugh, who described Lior Suchard as “mindblowing”.

When we heard Lior Suchard was heading back to our shores, we wanted to know more. So, we managed to pin him down and interrupt his very busy performing schedule to hear about his mind-bending show, how he honed his skills and his favourite celebrity ‘victims’! Check it out below.

Ticketmaster: Hi Lior, thank you so much for talking to Ticketmaster Blog. Can you tell us what the audience can expect from one of your live shows?

Lior Suchard: If they think they’ve seen everything – they should think again. I constantly change and work on my performances to create something that truly stretches people’s minds. It’s going to be an interactive mind boggling performance with entire audience participation which will combine wonder and comedy – it will be on the stage, off the stage, into the audience and will include many surprises from the aspects of the human mind – mind reading, influencing and much more. I can promise the show will blow people away and they won’t forget it.

Ticketmaster: At what age did you realise you had the abilities you have?

Lior Suchard: I was about six when I realised I had strong intuition and could pick up if someone was lying, or if they were good or bad. I worked on them and started playing mind games and I was right all the time. From: think of a number from 1 to 10 it became: think of a number from 1 to 100 and now I can ask: think of any number you want.

Ticketmaster: What is the greatest thing about your job?

Lior Suchard: The greatest thing is first of all that my job is my hobby and my hobby is my job J I love that I can bring joy to people, and allow them to realise the power of their own mind. I think it’s great that I am able to make people laugh and be amazed from my acts. I believe that the show is not only astonishing and funny, but also inspiring and shows the people the hidden potential of the mind and anything is possible if you believe.

Ticketmaster: You were named the winner of The Successor, a television show that sought to find a replacement for the legendary Uri Geller. Can you tell us about that experience?

Lior Suchard: Uri is a huge inspiration for me. Being named the next Uri Geller is a great compliment and having the platform of that show and his affirmation was very important to me. Uri was the first mentalist that took the abilities in such a way to the stage and TV. I perfected it to a completely new level and I’m inviting everyone to come and be amazed.

Ticketmaster: You’ve travelled all over the world performing your live shows. Are you excited to perform in Australia?

Lior Suchard: I love Australia. The first time I came I performed in Sydney –when I left my team and I were getting so many Facebook messages and e-mails from people asking me to come back.

I’m looking forward to coming back in January and February because I get to travel to different cities. People have told me so much about Brisbane, Perth… it will be good to see them and also spend more time in Melbourne. I often joke about how Australian people say ‘no worries’, and I think that after some of the Australians saw me on TV or on the radio they had some worries! But don’t worry – I only read positive thoughts.

Ticketmaster: You’ve stumped some of the world’s biggest celebrities. Can you tell us about a few of your favourites?

Lior Suchard: Gerard Butler loved it and is still going around telling people about it. But people like Jay Leno actually got angry with me! It was a highlight performing at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Foundation’s Charity Dinner this year! I revealed Sylvester Stallone’s first love and performed with Leonardo in front of all his guests!

Ticketmaster: Do you get a kick out of performing live or is it nerve-racking every time you are on stage?

Lior Suchard: I love to perform. I don’t just have a talent for mentalism, but a love for the stage, and that’s what I think is really important. Sure, sometimes I get nervous but I use the energy to make sure my show is even better. By doing what I do best – reading minds and influencing peoples thoughts, and using comedy, I can create a show that people love and are engaged by. Performing for hundreds if not thousands of people brings me joy – and I like that I can give the joy back to them.

Ticketmaster: If you could perform on stage with any other mentalist/magician/illusionist, who would you pick?

Lior Suchard: Probably Uri Geller again. He was the master and it would be an honour to perform with him. It’s been interesting for me because people are referring to me as the ‘master’ mentalist now and it’s exciting… I am proud to have worked hard and for people to see me as the next big thing.

Ticketmaster: And lastly, is there anything we can say to get you to reveal some of your secrets?

Lior Suchard: What I do is very simple, but at the same time very complex. It’s based on a basic principle: using communication to read people’s minds, but it involves the intricacies of dialogue, body language etc. All my live experiments on stage are based on mind abilities. I believe people can possess supernatural abilities and do what I do – it’s why I wrote the book ‘Mind Reader’. It’s not about secrets, but special skills.
