Now, this is news that you oughta know
Following its premiere season in Sydney this December, the Tony and Grammy Award winning Broadway production Jagged Little Pill The Musical is set to land in Perth and Melbourne in 2022.
Described as “essential medicine that must be swallowed and enjoyed so we can be cured,” by Rolling Stone, it’s full steam ahead for Jagged Little Pill.
We were told that Australian audiences can be more restrained than their American counterparts. That appears to be incorrect, and it’s been heart-burstingly wonderful to see them rise cheering to their feet every-night in tribute to our extraordinary Australian cast and our story of redemption, love and family. We can’t wait to take this crucial story to every corner of your beautiful land. Our gratitude goes to the hard-working team at Trafalgar, Theatre Royal Sydney and GWB, and to the resident creative team tirelessly led by Associate Director Leah Howard.Vivek J. Inspired by Grammy Award winner Alanis Morissette’s ground-breaking 1995 album of the same name, Jagged Little Pill The Musical weaves a story around songs from the iconic record.
Much-loved tracks ‘Ironic’, ‘You Oughta Know’, ‘Hand in My Pocket’, ‘Head Over Feet’ and ‘You Learn’ are all in the mix, in a production that boasts music by Morissette and her album co-writer and producer Glen Ballard.
The rest of Morissette’s stunning catalogue isn’t forgotten either, with songs including ‘Thank U’, ‘So Pure’, ‘That I Would Be Good’, ‘So Unsexy’ and ‘Hands Clean’ all popping up as well – as do two new songs written just for the show.
The musical centres around the Healys, a seemingly perfect suburban family striving to hide the cracks beneath the surface when a troubling event shakes their community. Using themes and emotions found in the original album, the musical embraces today’s powerful social voice and burns with passion in its uplifting storytelling, ultimately highlighting the hope and healing that can be found when people come together.
