Ticketmaster’s Top Tribute Acts – Day 5

It is commonly said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that is true, there are many great musicians and bands who should feel very flattered. Tribute performances for great artists – both living and dead – are popping up everywhere. Ticketmaster has compiled a list of some of our favourite tribute shows currently playing around Australia. We have been counting down our top 15 acts and the final three are below. We hope you’ve enjoyed the list.

Elvis to the Max – The Orchestral Sessions

Never has a singer inspired so many impersonators as Elvis Presley. Lucky for you, Elvis to the Max features Max Pellicano, an impersonator who is as good as they come. Pellicano has been performing as Elvis for more than two decades and bears an uncanny resemblance to ‘The King’, who sold more than a billion records and appeared in 33 films. Elvis to the Max will be performed at Brisbane’s Tivoli on August 8 and Sydney’s Theatre Royal on September 12.

Our Top Pick: Suspicious Minds

How to choose from the many, many popular hits from Elvis Presley? There were so many amazing songs we could have chosen but we have landed on Suspicious Minds, the 1969 single that is regarded to have reignited Presley’s career.

The Man in Black: The Johnny Cash Story

Tex Perkins, one of Australia’s best singer/songwriters, will bring to life the music of Johnny Cash with his acclaimed performance of Man in Black. Perkins weaves stories of Cash’s life and rise to stardom into the performance. The baritone beautifully represents the music of Cash, including classics such as I Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues, A Boy Names Sue and Get Rhythm. Perkins will perform The Man in Black: The Johnny Cash Story at the Sydney Opera House from July 15 to 20.

Our Top Pick: Ring of Fire

It is rare to have a night at a karaoke bar and not hear someone butcher Ring of Fire. The 1963 song is one of Johnny Cash’s most-famous recordings and was written by his wife June Carter Cash and Merle Kilgore.

Kisstroyer

Kisstroyer – the product of two brothers from Melbourne – has been entertaining audiences and paying tribute to rock band Kiss since 2001. The group brings to life all the classic hits and is theatrically accurate with elaborate costumes and make up, which makes it even more believable that you are watching the Starchild, Spaceman, the Demon and Catman. Kisstroyer will play at the Sandbelt Club Hotel on July 19 and Croxton Park Hotel on October 11 as part of the Live at Your Local series.

Our Top Pick: I Was Made for Lovin’ You

There’s quite a few classic Kiss songs that could have been selected here – we considered Rock and Roll All Nite, Shout it Out Loud, Detroit Rock City and God Gave Rock ‘N’ Roll to You but decided I Was Made for Lovin’ You was the quintessential Kiss classic. The 1979 single sold more than a million copies and remains a great rock song to this day.
