Ticketmaster’s Top Tribute Acts – Day 4

It is commonly said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that is true, there are many great musicians and bands who should feel very flattered. Tribute performances for great artists – both living and dead – are popping up everywhere. Ticketmaster has compiled a list of some of our favourite tribute shows currently playing around Australia. We have been counting down our top 15 acts. Tomorrow we will complete the list so stay tuned for more great tribute acts.

Boys in the Band

Unfortunately it isn’t possible to see Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the Jackson 5, the Bee Gees, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, the Platters, the Drifters and the Backstreet Boys all on the one stage at the one time. But you can see the next best thing when the Boys in the Band perform all the hits from the above artists in one night. The four performers are highly energetic and create amazing melodies mixed with slick dance moves. With more than 50 songs performed, the Boys in the Band show has something for everyone. The group will perform at the Arts Centre Melbourne Playhouse from August 13-16.

Our Top Pick: Blame it on the Boogie

We would have liked to choose one song from each of the artists represented in the Boys in the Band show, but quite frankly it would have taken all day! Instead we have chosen Blame it on the Boogie, the classic Jackson 5 song that still gets people on their feet and doing the little dance whenever the song is played.

Whole Lotta Love – Led Zeppelin Celebration

The 11th annual Whole Lotta Love tour will hit Sydney’s State Theatre for one night only. This three hour show is the longest-running, large-scale Led Zeppelin homage concert and will feature a nine-piece band live on stage. Guest vocals for Whole Lotta Love will be Jack Jones (Southern Sons), Simon Meli (The Widowbirds), Amy Findlay (Stonefield), Jimmy Couples from the Voice and Zkye.

Our Top Pick: Stairway to Heaven

While Led Zeppelin has a raft of amazing songs, the choice was simple. Stairway to Heaven is one of the most iconic songs of its generation – all eight minutes and two seconds of it. Released in 1971 the song is still regarded as one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

Roy Orbison & Del Shannon Together in Concert – A Tribute

Dean Bourne and Fallon pay tribute to two of the stars of yesteryear – Roy Orbison and Del Shannon. The rock ‘n’ roll music legends have a string of classics between them, which will be brought to life at Sydney’s State Theatre on August 19. Orbison and Shannon had a deep respect for one another and toured together in the UK in 1964. Dean Bourne and Fallon will recreate that magical tour on stage in a tribute concert that will be unforgettable. The show will appear at the State Theatre on Saturday July 19.

Our Top Pick: Oh, Pretty Woman – Roy Orbison

It has been 50 years since the Roy Orbison classic Oh, Pretty Woman was released and it remains a classic hit all this time later. While Orbison has a back catalogue full of hits, including Only the Lonely, Crying, In Dreams and Dream Baby, but Oh, Pretty Woman was the obvious choice for our list of iconic songs.

Our Top Pick: Runaway – Del Shannon

Del Shannon burst onto the rock ‘n’ roll scene in 1961 with the release of the iconic song Runaway. The song hit number one in the USA, UK and Australia and propelled Shannon to superstardom. Runaway was just a taste of things to come with Shannon compiling a raft of hits over his career including Hats off to Larry, Do You Wanna Dance and Handyman.
