With the announce of his debut solo album Walls dropping in January, we are absolutely excited to learn that British popstar Louis Tomlinson is making his first-ever solo trip to Australia.
Tomlinson has just released the Britpop-tinged banger ‘We Made It’ and with the song still freshly stuck in our heads the excitement of his impending visit is palpable.
The new track is inspired by nights out in Manchester in the early days of One Direction. “Any time off I had, I’d go to Manchester for nights out with my mates. It made me realise I didn’t live in the real world anymore and I missed it. I loved being normal, reckless and stupid. It was the best escape,” Tomlinson says.
“The chorus of ‘We Made It’ is also about me and the fans. Between us, it has taken a lot to get here. I feel as though only when I get out to tour, to sing these songs directly to the fans, will I have cemented the start of my solo career.”
Since he last landed on our shores with his One Direction bandmates in 2015, we have had celebrated solo visits from most of the boys – now it’s Louis’ turn.
Last week he announced he has a whole world tour locked in, beginning in Spain in March and ending in Canada in July, and fans Down Under were very excited to see a couple of Aussie shows on the list. Now we’ve got all the juicy details.
Before ‘We Made It’, Tomlinson had already delivered two slices of his debut solo album. The first, ‘Two of Us’ landed in March – a deeply personal ballad in response to the passing of his mother, and the perfect way to spearhead his return to music as a solo artist. Just last month, Tomlinson gave us ‘Kill My Mind’, the two tracks adding to his solo repertoire which also includes his 2016 club-ready collaboration with Steve Aoki called ‘Just Hold On’ and the brooding Bebe Rexha duet ‘Back to You’ released the following year.
Even before putting out a record, his solo career has gotten off to a flying start. In 2017, Tomlinson won an EMA Award for Best UK & Ireland Act, in 2018 he won the iHeart Radio Award for Best Solo Breakout and was ranked number five on Billboard’s emerging artists of the year. This year, his single ‘Two of Us’ scored the Teen Choice Award for Choice Single: Male Artist.
Louis Tomlinson will bring his world tour to Australia in July 2022. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.
