Flume, Sia and Keith Urban represent Aussie music in Grammy nominations

Beyoncé may be the unofficial queen of the 59th Annual Grammy Awards but it’s Flume, Sia and Keith Urban who are representing Australia in the nominations shortlist.

Naturally music critics across the globe are dissecting the Grammy nominations as we speak, with Queen Bey leading the way with 9 nods so far.

Queensland-born, OZ-based Keith Urban said he was ‘blown away’ after being nominated for Best Country Album, Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance.

Also landing three nominations was Adelaide’s Sia, who finds herself in the glittering Best Pop Album category, as well as Sia Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Cheap Thrills with Sean Paul and for Try Everything, a track from Disney’s Zootopia animated film.

Meanwhile, man of the moment Harley Streten, aka Flume, ended his glorious year with two nominations; Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronic Album.

The nominations packed some unexpected surprises too; namely that the late David Bowie missed out on a Album of the Year nomination and was instead shortlisted in alternative and rock categories.

Twenty One Pilots were nominated for five awards; Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Song Written For Visual Media.

Fighting it out for Best Album of the Year will be Adele, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Drake and Sturgill Simpson.

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on 12 February at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hosted by James Corden and broadcast via CBS.
