For the first time ever, the 2018 Helpmann Awards will consist of two nights of celebrations in the name of theatre and live performance.

The stars of Australia’s biggest theatre productions, both on and off stage, will flood to Sydney later this month in honour of the 2018 Helpmann Awards.

Split into Act I (Sunday 15 July) and Act II (Monday 16 July), the annual event will issue 42 prestigious Helpmann Awards across the two nights.

Act II will take place at Sydney’s celebrated Captiol Theatre on Monday 16 July, running from 8pm through to 10pm.

The glittering ceremony will be staged on the set of Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical, with a number of live performances throughout the night.

A stunning Black Tie event, the night will be hosted by Olivier and Tony Nominee, performer and writer, Tony Sheldon, alongside acclaimed choreographer, Raphael Bonachela, the multiple Helpmann Award-winning mezzo soprano, Jacqueline Dark, and much-loved musical theatre star and TV host, David Campbell.

The night’s live performances will include numbers from the casts of Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical and Muriel’s Wedding the Musical, as well as an appearance by Sydney Dance Company dancers Davide Di Giovanni and Charmene Yap.

Triple ARIA award-winners, the quiet achievers of Australian pop My Friend the Chocolate Cake, with David Bridie, Helen Mountfort and Hope Csutoros will also perform live.

Closing the event will be the biggest line up of Australian leading female vocalists, including Michala Banas (Upper Middle Bogan), Natalie Bassingthwaite (The X Factor), Casey Donovan ((Australian Idol) Virginia Gay (First Tuesday Book Club), Verity Hunt-Ballard (Mary Poppins), Dami Im (Eurovision), Maggie McKenna (Muriel’s Wedding the Musical), Queenie van der Zandt (2017 Helpmann Awards Host) and Zahra Newman (Book of Mormon).

Epic.
