Sydney Festival has today announced its full 2019 program with big ideas and the highest quality art from across the world, ready to transform Sydney into a colourful celebration of summer.

The Festival will run from Wednesday 9 January until Sunday 27 January and will feature 18 world premieres, city-wide free events, and art in some very unusual places. With so much to choose from it can get a bit overwhelming, but we’re here to help with a roundup of our top picks.

Cabaret:

If Cabaret is what you’re after (because what good is sitting alone in your room?) then look no further than Le Gateau Chocolat. Bringing his new show Icons to Sydney Festival, Le Gateau Chocolat will impress with his beautiful baritone while warming hearts with stories of how a British born, Nigerian boy with a law degree and a love for opera and sequins became Le Gateau Chocolat. Music:

With so many artists headed to Sydney Festival it’s tough to pick just one, but if that one is Nakhane then I guess we can live with that. Nakhane is a South African native and a pioneer of LGBTQ+ rights in his community, even after receiving death threats that pushed him to move to London earlier this year. His music emphatically and fearlessly portrays the message of exactly who he is and how this message shouldn’t be something to be afraid of. Get Tickets.

Theatre:

If you’ve ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in someone else’s home this is your chance. Home presents a house which through the process of people moving in and out; eating, sleeping, living, loving and arguing becomes a home. Stories from multiple generations overlap in a moving look into the beauty of the everyday. Get Tickets.
