Ticket of the Year
Come From Away has been handpicked by Australian fans to be crowned Australia's Ticket of the Year 2019.
We asked you to choose your favourite live event of 2019 and you answered in your thousands – crowning Come From Away at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre as Ticketmaster’s Ticket of the Year 2019 in Australia.
Topping this year’s list is critically-acclaimed, award-winning musical Come From Away. Making it’s debut at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre in July, the heartwarming and powerful production is also currently playing on Broadway and in Toronto, North America and London’s the West End.
Based on the true story of thousands of passengers diverted to the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland in Canada following the events of September 11, 2001. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust and music soared into the night. Capturing the true capacity for human kindness, even in the hardest of times, it’s no wonder Come From Away has resonated with Australian audiences so greatly.
Producer Rodney Rigby says, “We are absolutely thrilled that Come From Away has been crowned Ticketmaster’s Ticket Of The Year. For the last four months, the production has been wowing audiences from all over Australia and it’s great that it’s become a fan favourite this year.”
Not far behind though, Come From Away held off stiff competition from other fan favourites including the magic of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as well as international rock superstars Red Hot Chilli Peppers, smash-hit Book of Mormon (on the list for a third year running), and comedy hero Tim Minchin.
We were truly blessed with greatness this year!

Theatre was well represented in Ticketmaster’s Ticket of the Year for 2019. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has been at home in Melbourne’s Princess Theatre throughout the year and was 2018’s most anticipated event, came in a close second place, while the hilarious hit musical Book Of Mormon, Chicago The Musical and Muriel’s Wedding were all favoured by Australian theatregoers in 2019.
Aussie comedy legend Tim Minchin’s BACK national tour was also a big hit, seeing him land as the only solo artist in the Australian top ten and building anticipation for the tour’s return in the new year. Annual festivals RNB Fridays Live, Red Hot Summer, and Download proved that punters love a music-filled day out and showcase just how strong and diverse Australia’s music offering is.
On a global scale, pop icon P!nk topped the poll for votes cast internationally with her Beautiful Trauma World Tour thrilling audiences across America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. The Grammy Award winner, who released her eighth studio album Hurts 2B Human in April, tallied up a record 157 shows worldwide.
On the achievement P!nk says,“What an honour. I had such an incredible team and touring family as part of the Beautiful Trauma World Tour. We worked really hard to create the best show we could for all the fans and I’m so proud of all of us.”
2020 is almost upon us, and we are more than ready for all the incredible events ready to take over our stages.
Elton-mania will sweep the country at the end of this month as Sir Elton John kicks off his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour across the country and it’s clear Australian fans cannot wait for the 34-date tour to launch.

It’s one hell of a show, we’re beyond excited to be bringing it to Australia, and from Ticketmaster’s Ticket Of The Year poll it looks like fans are highly anticipating it too.”
