Mandy Patinkin has a (not so) secret talent
Before he was an Emmy Award-winning actor, Mandy Patinkin was slaying on Broadway.
Mandy Patinkin is heading to Australia for the first time in five years to present ‘Mandy Patinkin in Concert’.
You may know him as counterterrorism CIA agent, Saul Berenson, or the swashbuckling Inigo Montoya (you killed my father, prepare to die) or even Dr Jeffrey Geiger of Chicago Hope Hospital.
But did you know that before he was an Emmy Award-winning actor, Mandy Patinkin was a Tony Award-winning Broadway legend?
Making his Broadway debut as Che in Evita, Patinkin hit it out of the park with a Tony-winning performance as the famous Argentine revolutionary and narrator.
Patinkin’s powerful vocals and honest portrayal led to a series of film work. His ability to play completely diverse characters became apparent, with him acting in intense dramatic works such as Ragtime and Yentl, through to cult classic comedy the Princess Bride.
Patinkin returned to Broadway in 1984 to play the title role in Sunday’s in the Park with George alongside Bernadette Peters. Patinkin’s performance scored him a Tony nomination and his stunning vocals and emotionally vulnerable portrayal of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning story (one of only nine musicals to win the prestigious award) were widely acclaimed.
Between his successful bouts on the screen, Patinkin came back to the Broadway stage several times. He originated the role of Archibald Craven in the Musical adaptation of The Secret Garden, appeared as Marvin in Falsettos and was nominated for a third Tony for his role as Burrs in The Wild Party.

His live show has been a total hit in the Us, too, with The New Yorker saying, “Mandy is a musical force of nature” and The Toronto Star saying, “The most complete entertainer of his generation.”
