EVITA is coming to Melbourne, having just confirmed details of its 2018 Victorian season.

Starring Australian pop sensation, Tina Arena, as Eva Peron, the original West End and Broadway production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical EVITA will open in Melbourne this coming December.

The Melbourne season will bring the 40th anniversary production to Arts Centre Melbourne, following the show’s Sydney Opera House run in September.

Australia’s production of EVITA is directed by Harold Prince and has been brought down under in partnership with commercial producer, John Frost.

It’ll have been more than a decade since Tina Arena last hit the stage, playing Roxie Hart in the London production of Chicago. Her last Australian stage role was as Sally Bowles in Cabaret in Sydney in 2002.

Talking about the announcement previously, Tina said, “I have been approached to do this role on a couple of occasions. I never felt emotionally ready for it. I felt I had a lot of living and learning before I could get up and take on the enormity of the story and the human spirit she possessed.”

The songstress has also spoken more about the role in this recent interview:
