We're heading back to the '90s

Based on the acclaimed hit film starring Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar – Cruel Intentions: The 90’s Musical is ready to hit stages in Sydney and Brisbane.

When we think of the ’90s, there are a lot of iconic memories to dig through. From some of the best cartoons to iconic movies, music moments that still hold strong today, and toys and trends that are just waiting to come back in fashion (if they haven’t already).

We love a dose of nostalgia, so of course we are excited that Cruel Intentions: The 90’s Musical is coming to stages around the country.

If you’re familiar with the 1999 film then you are very aware that the romantic drama centred around a group of wealthy teenagers in New York was a cult hit that spawned a sequel, a prequel, and a jukebox musical of ’90s bangers.

When Cruel Intentions: The 90’s Musical describes itself as the ultimate throwback experience, it really isn’t lying.

Penned by the writer and director of the film Roger Kumble, along with Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical received rave reviews from Hollywood royalty and original film cast members during its USA and UK tours.

Who is in Cruel Intentions: The 90’s Musical?

An all-Australian cast of singers, dancers and actors are set to bring this iconic musical to the stage.

Musical theatre superstar Kirby Burgess (Baby in GFO’s Dirty Dancing, The Wedding Singer, Bring It On: The Musical) will perform as the scheming seductress Kathryn, the role made famous by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Hallmark movie heartthrob Drew Weston (Danny Zuko in Grease, Dream Lover, Mary Poppins, MTC’s Hay Fever) will be very much the brooding ab-fest as Ryan Phillippe’s character Sebastian.

Helpmann Award-nominated performer Francine Cain has a slew of mainstage principal role credits and will play the naive Cecile (played by Selma Blair in the movie), who becomes entangled in Sebastian and Kathryn’s plot of revenge, and participates in ‘that’ iconic kiss with Kathryn.
