The Book of Mormon named Ticket of the Year 2017

The Book of Mormon tops the Ticketmaster poll, seeing off competition from Adele, Kinky Boots and Aladdin.

We asked you to name your favourite live event of this year and you answered in your thousands, crowning The Book of Mormon as Ticketmaster’s Ticket of the Year 2017 in Australia.

Ticketmaster polled Australian fans from its database of 85 million live entertainment fans around the world to discover the most popular live events in 2017, and the hilarious, award-winning musical came out on top.

It’s official, The Book of Mormon has been named Australia’s Ticket of the Year 2017.

The critically acclaimed theatre production, which debuted down under at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in January, has beaten off stiff competition from global megastar Adele at The Gabba in second place, and Beautiful – The Carole King Musical at the Sydney Lyric, in third.

Theatre continues to thrill audiences across Australia, with six of the ten most sought-after tickets of last year being for musical theatre. Capitol Theatre in Sydney came out on top for the most voted for venue, hosting three musical marvels – Aladdin, My Fair Lady and Kinky Boots – all of which feature in the top ten events of 2017.

Melbourne proved to be the most popular city for great live entertainment in 2017, followed by Brisbane and Sydney.

Being the only solo artist to appear in the top five for the Ticket of the Year 2017 and making the list twice, Adele is undoubtedly one of the most popular artists to ever perform live in Australia. Australia’s own Midnight Oil also feature strongly, making it into the top 5 live artists in the last year.

On a global scale, Coldplay top the poll for votes cast across the world. Their immense technicolour Head Full of Dreams tour secured them a second year at the top of Ticketmaster’s poll.

Responding to their win, Coldplay said, “Thank you to everyone who voted for us as Ticketmaster Ticket of the Year 2017. The fact that we’re winning this award for the second year in a row says much more about our fans than it does about us, but we are truly grateful. Over the past two years, we played 114 shows in 76 cities and 31 countries around the world and we loved every minute of it. Thank you to everyone who came to those shows. It goes without saying, the tour would have been nothing without you.”

Looking ahead to next year, British singer-songwriter, Ed Sheeran, has been named as Australia’s most anticipated event for 2018. Ed’s ÷ (Divide) tour has got pulses racing already, as fans count down to what promises to be a series of unforgettable concerts. Other hotly anticipated shows for 2018 in Australia include Mamma Mia! The Musical and Foo Fighters, as well as two of this year’s smash musicals, Aladdin – The Musical and The Book of Mormon.
