Just three huge rounds remain in the AFL season

With only three rounds remaining in the AFL home and away season, there is still plenty up for grabs.

It is shaping up to be a thrilling end to the 2018 AFL season, with many positions still up for grabs and only one game separating third and tenth. There really is everything to play for.

Richmond and West Coast are sitting pretty in first and second, but the Eagles will be tested in the remaining weeks with Andrew Gaff sure to be sidelined for a number of weeks, as they look to secure a home final.

A supreme run of form has pushed GWS into third position, with the early season draw with the Saints separating the GIANTS and the remainder of the top eight. Melbourne currently round out the top four, but many clubs will still be worried with only percentage separating the Dees and the remainder of the eight, including Hawthorn, Collingwood, Port Adelaide and Sydney.

Geelong and North Melbourne are the two most likely sides outside the eight to upset the finals makeup, with both clubs sitting just one game outside. Essendon and Adelaide are the remaining two sides with mathematical chances of making it, but it would prove to be an enormous task.

Round 20 started with an absolute bang with five of the first six matches decided by four points or less, before Sunday saw the trend reversed with several blowouts occurring. Round 21 promises to be just as entertaining with several mouth-watering clashes lined up.

Round 21

If Essendon’s slim finals chances are to remain, they will need to beat St Kilda on Friday night (10 August), otherwise it will be all over. The two sides will clash at 7:50pm at Etihad Stadium in the first of Essendon’s remaining three Friday night games.

Collingwood will also host an Etihad Stadium clash on Saturday night (11 August), as they take on a young and impressive Brisbane Lions side at 7:25pm. Collingwood will be raring to go as they look to secure not only a finals spot, but push to break into the top four.

North Melbourne will then head to Etihad Stadium on Sunday (12 August), as they take on the Western Bulldogs. It’s a must-win clash for North and a victory will go a long way to helping their finals ambitions.

The round will close out on Sunday with Fremantle taking on Carlton at Optus Stadium, starting at 2:40pm. Both sides will be playing for pride, as they look to end their season with a decent run of form to carry into next season.

And the remainder…

The remaining two rounds for the season (Rounds 22 and 23) will hold some interesting clashes that are also sure to go a long way to shaping the finals.

Geelong will have two more games at GMHBA Stadium, taking on Freo (Saturday August 18) and Gold Coast (Saturday August 25).

GWS will take on Sydney in a Round 22 derby at Spotless Stadium (Saturday August 18) in what promises to be an absolute belter.

West Coast will take on Melbourne in Round 22 also, at Optus Stadium (Sunday August 19) in another mouth-watering clash for Round 22.
