Renault have recently unveiled their new car for the 2019 Formula 1 season ahead of the opening race of the season in Melbourne.

The Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix will open the 2019 season in Melbourne, held at Albert Park from Thursday 14 – Sunday 17 March.

Aussie Daniel Ricciardo will be hoping for a big result on home soil, this season donning new colours after his switch from Red Bull. Ricciardo announced the switch to Renault in August last year after five years with Red Bull.

Renault are making a giant play to close in on the big three manufacturers, after nailing their best constructors’ finish since they returned to motorsport in 2016, sitting in fourth place. The French-based company will be looking to go even bigger this F1 season, and Ricciardo is a key pillar in these ambitions.

Renault have revealed images of the RS19 for the first time, yet the car will not be fully unveiled until Monday 18 February for testing in Barcelona.

Renault’s Sport President Jerome Still has spoken of their ambition to be “real contenders”, while Daniel Ricciardo addressed his ambitions for the season ahead.

“It’s certainly not a midfield attitude. It’s like, ‘Let’s attack those top teams.’

“There is still a lot in this sport that I have not accomplished that I want. The big one is the world title,” he said.

“A lot of people, when I did sign here, were saying, ‘Why has he done that?’

“I feel as though maybe not everyone sees it as a serious move so I want to make it work and prove it is serious.

“Sure, it is a bonus to be working at a new factory, but I want to do something with it and show people I am not just taking a backwards step.”
