It was a slow start for the Perth Scorchers in BBL|08, but it appears the three-time BBL Champions are back.

They started the season with one win from six, yet have now won their past two as they host ladder-leaders Hobart Hurricanes on Friday night (18 January). A resurgence in form sees Perth now just one win off second place, and a genuine chance to push for an eighth consecutive finals berth.

The BBL’s most successful franchise have never missed the top four, having won the league three times and as well as two times runners up since its inception in 2011.

The increased length of the BBL this season is certainly suiting the Scorchers, and fans can trust they’ll be doing everything in their power to maintain a flawless finals qualification record.

Captain Ashton Turner has been instrumental, knocking a huge 300 runs already (including two half-tons), sitting third in the total runs’ rankings behind D’Arcy Short and Chris Lynn. The return of Cam Bancroft has been huge as well, knocking fifties in his past two games, including 87 not out to steer the Scorchers to victory on Sunday against the Sixers. Andrew Tye has done the most damage with the ball, taking 10 wickets so far.

Coming Up

Perth face the Hurricanes this Friday night (18 January) in a huge clash, with only the Renegades being able to knock off Hobart so far this campaign. The heavy hitters will be going head to head as two of the biggest bats in the country, Turner and Short, compete against one another to knock it out of Optus Stadium.

The Hurricanes clash is the first of three home clashes in a row for the Scorchers, as they then host Sydney Thunder on Thursday 24 January, followed by the Renegades on Monday 28 January. A solid end to January will hold them in very good stead as we approach the back end of the season.
