LaMelo Ball, a 6”6’ point guard and potential top 5 2020 NBA draft pick has signed with the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL next season.

In a huge coup for the league, the 17-year-old future star and global sensation, will ply his trade at WIN Entertainment Centre for the 2019-20 season in preparation for the 2020 NBA draft.

Ball joins as part of the NBL’s ‘Next Stars’ program, not long after fellow potential top 5 pick R.J. Hampton, signed for the Sky City Breakers.

Ball is the younger brother of current NBA star Lonzo Ball, and the son of outspoken media personality LaVar Ball.

Speaking of his new club, Ball says, “I am excited to be a part of the NBL’s Next Stars program and to join the Illawarra Hawks team.

“They have a really strong league, with excellent coaches and great players, including former and future NBA players, and great strength and conditioning programs. My goal is to be the top pick in next year’s Draft and I feel they can help me reach that goal. Also, the timing of the season works well with the timing of next year’s Draft.

“I believe this will be an amazing opportunity for me as I continue in my journey toward fulfilling my dream of playing in the NBA.”

General Manager of the Illawarra Hawks, Mat Campbell, says of the signing, “We’re very excited to have LaMelo join the team. It has been a goal of the club to provide pathway opportunities for our young talent to play in the NBA. With the likes of LaMelo and recently signed Sam Froling, we believe we’re well on our way to achieving that goal.”
