We’re six rounds into the Hyundai A-League season, and it’s already shaping up to be a belter of a campaign.
Perth Glory are sitting pretty undefeated on top of the table, whilst ever-present Melbourne Victory aren’t far behind in second place. Fans are also waiting eagerly for the Newcastle Jets to inevitably kick back into gear following a Runners Up finish to the Victory last season.

This weekend’s action all starts with the Western Sydney Wanderers taking on Central Coast Mariners in a primetime Friday night (7 December) timeslot, kicking off at 7:50pm at Spotless Stadium. The Wanderers have been struggling for form so far this season, but with the most shots on goal this season, they are getting forward enough to suggest the goals will start to come.

Melbourne Victory are again at Marvel Stadium after last week’s big win, this time up against the 4th placed Adelaide United. All the talk this season centres around Keisuke Honda, and his form in the first six matches already has people suggesting he is the best the A-League has seen. Honda leads the league for chances created this campaign and has been a delight to watch for Victory this season. After knocking four past the Wanderers last Saturday, fans will be expecting the Victory to again put on a show on home soil as they attempt to claw down Perth Glory at the top of the table. The Saturday night (8 December) fixture kicks off at 7:50pm also.

Ladder leaders Perth Glory will then follow this clash as they come up against Melbourne City. The Glory have been a revelation this season with the addition of Championship winning Manager Tony Popovic, plus a host of key signings. Andy Keogh and new signing, Socceroo Christopher Ikonimidis, have been in stellar form in front of goals with four each in the first six matches. Whilst Neil Kilkenny has been marshalling the centre of the park brilliantly, as well as creating plenty of chances himself. Kick off is at 7pm (WST) on Saturday night (8 December) at nib Stadium, with fans expected to turn out in droves to support the Glory in their title charge, up against contenders City.

Liam Reddy has been in sensational form for ladder leaders Perth Glory this campaign.

The round closes out with Sunday evening football at McDonald Jones Stadium as the Newcastle Jets look to kickstart their form against Brisbane Roar. The Roar will be without star playmaker Stefan Mauk after he was sent off in the bizarre and controversial events of their last match against Adelaide. The Jets’ Dimi Petratos (up against his former club) and Ronny Vargas will be the key men to watch, with both creating plenty of chances as they dazzle for Newcastle this season. The Jets will be hoping in-form striker Adam Taggart doesn’t make the trip for the Roar either, after being substituted early with injury last week. After plenty of away matches this season for Newcastle, this kickstarts a big month of home games for the side with four of their next five at home.
