In what is arguably the match of the round in the AFL this weekend, 5th placed Geelong will return to GMHBA Stadium as they host the 6th placed North Melbourne. In what many would have penciled as a blowout when the fixture was released, the surprising form of North Melbourne this season turns this into a mouth-watering contest.

The Cats have won their past two, whilst North have three on the trot, with both sides sitting even on the AFL ladder on seven wins for the season with only percentage separating the clubs. Geelong will be coming off a comfortable demolition of the Gold Coast Suns by 85 points as Gary Ablett returned to Metricon for the first time in scintillating form, accumulating 37 touches and bagging 3 goals. The Geelong faithful will certainly be right behind the great man this weekend after a rather hostile reception as he returned to the Gold Coast. Joel Selwood and Mitch Duncan were both brilliant as usual, racking up 33 and 32 disposals respectively with a goal each.

North Melbourne were in similar form as they monstered a struggling Brisbane Lions side by 54 points, booting a huge 21 goals. Key forward Ben Brown continues to chug along as he leads the Coleman medal race on 35 goals, four in front of Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan. Shaun Higgins was again prolific with 38 touches and a goal, whilst long-time-waiting debutant Paul Ahern was terrific in his first game with 29 disposals.

North Melbourne will be hoping to regain power forward Jarrad Waite on Saturday after he was a late withdrawal with calf soreness on the weekend.

The clash will take place this Saturday, 9 June at 1:45pm at GMHBA Stadium as the Cats celebrate Saturday afternoon footy with Retro Round. You can also grab 25% off all family tickets*. Claim your offer here.
