The summer of tennis is underway, and the Brisbane International is next on the list, starting today at the Queensland Tennis Centre.

Held from Monday 6 January to Sunday 12 January, the tournament will see several top female tennis stars battle it out.

Who’s playing?

The field is arguably the strongest ever at the tournament including seven Grand Slam Champions and headlined by our very own Ash Barty, current number one in the world.

Barty is one of six in the current WTA top ten ready to compete, including world number two Karolina Pliskova, and number three and reigning Australian Open Champion, Naomi Osaka.

Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova and Kiki Bertens are all top ten ranked players.

Other big names include former number one Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams and Aussie favourite Sam Stosur.

Day One highlights

There are some huge matches locked in when the Brisbane International launches this Monday 6 January. It is more than eight years since Angelique Kerber and our own Samantha Stosur faced off for the first time to earn a spot in the 2011 US Open final. Now, at the Brisbane International, they’ll meet for the eighth time in their history.

A champion in Brisbane two years ago, number 4 seed Elina Svitolina will begin her 2020 campaign when she faces American Danielle Collins for the first time. Following a career-best 2019, the Ukrainian passed the quarter-finals at a major for the first time at Wimbledon, then again at the US Open.

Brisbane International Schedule

Round 1 begins on Monday 6 January, running across the opening two days.

The Quarter Finals will begin on Friday 10 January, followed by the Semi-Finals on Saturday 11 January.

We will all be hoping our Aussie hero is there on the final day, with the Finals held on Sunday 12 January, as Barty has agreed to donate her entire prize money from the tournament to the Australian bushfire appeal.

The Brisbane International will take over the Queensland Tennis Centre from Monday 6 January to Sunday 12 January. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.com.au.
