The Big Bash League begins this week, ready to light up our summer.

As we roll into the festive period, there’s nothing more synonymous with an Aussie summer these days than the Big Bash. With huge hits, insane catches, skittling wickets, fireworks and all kinds of entertainment, the Big Bash is the event of the summer. Our national side is in form this test too, generating plenty of hype around what is looking to be the biggest Big Bash season yet.

There really is no better way to soak up that Aussie sun, and enjoy the warm summer nights than at the Big Bash…so, where can you catch it this season?

Perth Scorchers

The League’s ever-constant, the Perth Scorchers are always thereabouts at the end of the campaign. In the past seven  BBL seasons, the Scorchers have won three, and don’t they know how to pull in a crowd too. The Scorchers will now take their games to Optus Stadium in exciting news for fans. The 60,000-capacity stadium held a semi-final last season upon completion. Now the Scorchers will play all of their games at the world-class venue, moving from the WACA.

The Scorchers light up their home campaign on Boxing Day against reigning champions, the Adelaide Strikers. They follow this on Saturday 5 January against Brisbane Heat and their ‘Bash Brothers’. These mouth-watering first two Optus Stadium clashes for the Scorchers will have fans drooling to start the season.

The Story: All eyes will be on Aussie Cameron Bancroft, as he officially returns from his suspension following the Boxing Day clash.

We are very excited to see the Big Bash at Optus Stadium on a permanent basis.

Melbourne Renegades

The newly-named Marvel Stadium will again play host to the Renegades home clashes this season, all starting with FMXmas this Thursday (20 December). The ‘Gades will go into battle against Perth Scorchers in prime pre-Christmas entertainment. There will be FMX shows and entertainment on display both pre-game and in the innings break that is set to blow your mind. The Renegades have added further talent to their squad that made the Semi-Finals in 2017/18, bringing in Hobart Hurricanes duo Cameron Boyce and Dan Christian.

What’s more, Marvel Stadium will be giving away free Mount Franklin flavoured water for families* at all games in December.

*Families include parents or guardians with children.

The Renegades will also take two games down the highway to Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium next year. They face reigning champions Adelaide Strikers at the venue on Wednesday 3 January, and then just 10 days later (13 January) they’ll take on the big-hitting Brisbane Heat in fantastic news for the Renegades’ Geelong fans.

The Story: Who will rise to the challenge for the Renegades with both their openers, Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris, looking to cement their spots as Australia’s Test openers.

GMHBA Stadium will be going off as the Renegades head down the highway.

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder will return to Spotless Stadium for the 2018/19 BBL season, all starting with the Christmas Eve Sydney Smash. The Sydney derby is where you want to be on Christmas Eve as the Thunder take on the Sydney Sixers. The Thunder will play five matches in total at Spotless Stadium. You can expect Thunder captain Shane Watson to again shine after a fantastic campaign in BBL|07, smashing 331 runs.

The Story: Sydney Thunder have made arguably the best additions to their squad over the off-season, with English Test Captain Joe Root and his fellow countryman, star batsman Jos Buttler, joining the Thunder for BBL|08.

Joe Root, a huge addition to the Thunder squad, is excited for the upcoming BBL season.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes went down in last season’s Grand Final, and will be hoping to go one better this campaign. The Hurricanes will take two games to Launceston, at UTAS Stadium, in 2018/19 as they battle the Perth Scorchers on Sunday 30 December. They will then play the Grand Final rematch against the Adelaide Strikers on Thursday 31 January, in what is set up to be a ripping clash.

The Story: D’Arcy Short will again front up for the Hurricanes, following a tremendous season winning Player of the Series in 2017/18, and knocking the most runs with 572 at an average of 57.32 and a strike rate of 148.57.

Clive Rose is up and about as we near the start of the Big Bash season.

WBBL

We’ve also got plenty of WBBL doubleheaders happening across the 2018/19 season. See the Sydney Thunder WBBL side in a doubleheader on Christmas Eve at Spotless Stadium. The Perth Scorchers Boxing Day clash will also be a doubleheader. The Melbourne Renegades WBBL side will face local rivals Melbourne Stars on Saturday 29 December at Marvel Stadium as well. The following day at UTAS Stadium sees a Hobart Hurricanes doubleheader with the women taking on the Brisbane Heat.

Sydney Thunder Women bring in the New Year with a doubleheader at Spotless Stadium on Wednesday 2 January, and then again the following week on Tuesday 8 January.

There are plenty of WBBL and BBL double headers lined up for fans this 2018/19 season.

This year’s edition of the Big Bash is primed to be the biggest yet, and what better way to spend your summer than immersing yourself in cricket. There is going to be plenty happening entertainment-wise around each stadium to keep the whole family engaged, in addition to the world-class slogging, ripping catches and searing bowling that is sure to be in abundance.
