Big Bash providing the goods this summer

The Big Bash is almost halfway through, providing just what we needed to heat up the summer holidays.

The Big Bash has been in full flight this summer, and there’s more excitement to come in the second half of the campaign.

The Hobart Hurricanes sit on top of the ladder, despite suffering their first loss last week, with the Thunder, Sixers and Strikers rounding out the top four. The Renegades, Heat, Stars and Scorchers would still all fancy their chances however, with just one win separating 2nd and last.

Brisbane Heat’s Chris Lynn and the Scorchers’ Ashton Turner have been doing magical things with the bat, leading the league in runs with 300 and 313 respectively, closely followed by Englishman Jos Buttler and big-hitting Aussie D’Arcy Short, who has started this BBL campaign where he left off after top-scoring throughout the 2017/18 season.

The Sixers’ Steve O’Keefe and Strikers’ Rashid Khan are doing the talking with the ball as leading wicket-takers so far with 13 each, alongside the Renegades’ Kane Richardson, Sixers’ Sean Abbott and Tom Curran and the Thunder’s Daniel Sams all with 11 wickets.

Top three coming up

Check out our top three Big Bash clashes that we’re most looking forward to for the remainder of the BBL season.

1. Renegades v Stars | 6.45pm, Saturday 19 January – Marvel Stadium

It’s the Melbourne Derby, and this one always delivers. With the Stars taking bragging rights in the first derby of the season, the Renegades will be keen for revenge on their home track. This one is sure to be a party and both sides will certainly be fired up. Plus, with live music during the innings break, you’ll be entertained even when the cricketers are off the field.

2. Hurricanes v Strikers – 7.30pm, Thursday 31 January – UTAS Stadium

It’s the current table toppers, Hobart Hurricanes, against the reigning Champions and in form side, Adelaide Strikers. See spin sensation and fan favourite Rashid Khan go head to head with the huge hitting D’Arcy Short in Launceston at UTAS Stadium.

3. Scorchers v Hurricanes – 6.30pm, Friday 18 January – Optus Stadium

It’s a semi-final replay, played on the nation’s newest home of cricket, Optus Stadium, with some of the country’s most passionate fans. You know this one will be big. Can the Hurricanes repeat last year’s epic semi-final, or will the Scorchers grab revenge on home soil?

The Fan Zone and pre-game entertainment at Optus Stadium are epic

With less than half the BBL season remaining, it’s all set up for a huge finish. Can anyone topple the Hurricanes and D’Arcy Short? Will Jos Buttler steer the Thunder to victory? Or is there another challenger to emerge and take the glory.

We can’t wait to find out. It’s the perfect way to soak up the sun and keep the kids entertained this summer, so head to Ticketmaster.com.au and score your BBL tickets now.
