The Adelaide International, a combined ATP and WTA Tournament, is landing this January.

It will be held at the recently redeveloped Memorial Drive, now featuring a brand-new canopy roof over centre court.

The tournament marks the first time a WTA tournament has been held in Adelaide, and combined with the ATP, will see over 120 of the world’s best female and male tennis players compete for $2 million in prize-money.

World no. 1 Ash Barty has been locked in to compete in Adelaide, alongside former no. 1 (and current no. 6) Simona Halep.

“I’m excited to play in the first tournament in Adelaide,” Barty says.

“Memorial Drive has so much history in Australian tennis and I can’t wait to play at the new Adelaide International. It’s going to be a great event and it’s always special to be part of something new.

“I’m expecting the field to be super competitive and I’m looking forward to finalising my Australian Open preparations in Adelaide.”

On the men’s side, world no. 17 and rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime has been locked in to compete in Adelaide.

The 19-year-old is the youngest player in the men’s top 20, and his stocks are rising significantly as one of the brightest young stars on the circuit.

Speaking of his excitement to head to Adelaide, Auger-Aliassime says, “I am really looking forward to playing in Adelaide in January.

“I have always enjoyed visiting Australia, but I haven’t visited Adelaide before, so I am thrilled to be playing the first Adelaide International.

“I have heard that the climate in Adelaide is very similar to Melbourne, so I think that this tournament will be the perfect preparation for the Australian Open.”
