The firsts keep on rolling!
As the countdown to the 2020 AFL Grand Final ticks down, the AFL has locked in a stellar, All-Australian lineup of artists to deliver this year’s entertainment.
Leading the way is Sydney trio and one of our biggest musical exports in recent years DMA’S. Since exploding onto the scene in 2014, they’ve delivered three critically-acclaimed albums, taken over stages at some of the world’s biggest festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury & Reading and Leeds and sold-out shows in every corner of the globe.
“We are so excited to be playing the AFL grand final this year at the Gabba. Covid19 has hit our nation hard but the footy has given many of us a great source of joy and excitement over these last months, so it’s a real honour to be playing the final. We also wanted to send our love especially to those in Melbourne and greater Victoria who have been doing it tough. Looking forward to seeing you all,” DMA’s say.
They’ll be joined by global pop powerhouse Cub Sport who are sure to be still celebrating their #2 ARIA Album chart debut for LIKE NIRVANA, ‘Geronimo’ hittmakers Sheppard, Wolfmother’s inimitable lead vocalist/guitarist Andrew Stockdale, multi-award-winning duo – and second-place finishers in Eurovision: Australia Decides – Electric Fields, incredible Gamilaraay singer-songwriter Thelma Plum, and Busby Marou.
We told you it was huge!
To top it all off, in what is sure to be another special Grand Final moment, Mike Brady will perform his track ‘Up There Cazaly’ from the Melbourne Cricket Ground, accompanied by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra live in the Gabba.
“On the back of an All-Australian lineup at last year’s Grand Final, we know there is incredible support to bring together local talent again this year,” AFL General Manager of Commercial Kylie Rogers says.
“We have some of the best of Australia’s musical talent performing, with a unique sound and collection of voices – from the Torres Strait down to the south coast – we’re proud to be delivering another All-Australian billing for the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final.”
2020 continues to be a year of firsts for the AFL, with the historic move to the Gabba, a new night-time slot for the match, and now a brand-new entertainment format featuring both pre-game and half-time performances.
The 2020 AFL Grand Final will be played at The Gabba on Saturday 24 October. We’ll keep you updated on all the Grand Final news as it unfolds.
