But before Godwin’s designs are marched down the runway at MSFW, we took the chance to hear from him about the excitement of the event, his personal style and his biggest fashion regret… you’ll never guess what he said!

Ticketmaster: Thank you so much for joining us. How are the preparations for MSFW coming along?

Godwin Hili: As usual it’s a frantic time of the year with so much effort going in to launching a new season. The toughest challenge for me is narrowing down the 12 menswear looks to present on the runway.

Ticketmaster: How did you get into fashion?

Godwin Hili: During my early days in the Accounting, Marketing and Advertising worlds I was fortunate enough to become great friends with the son of a Collingwood-based tailor. Having identified a creative streak in me, I set about nurturing a raw instinct and passion towards styling and creating garments. My weekends and any spare time were spent learning the beautiful old craft in the Collingwood workshop amongst some of the finest bespoke tailors, cutters and pattern makers. My hobby quickly became my new career.

Ticketmaster: What makes Melbourne Spring Fashion Week so special?

Godwin Hili: MSFW to me is all about showcasing inspiring looks that are attainable by the local supporters of home grown fashion talent. In a world dominated by global brands, it’s refreshing to be part of week dedicated to harnessing the influence of Aussie brands.

Ticketmaster: What do you think will be the trends on the runway this season?

Godwin Hili: As a key menswear focus, be expected to see lots of muted colour, softer tones that emit a more relaxed approach to modern day dressing. This is not to say pattern and brighter pallets will be absent, but greater attention will be given to the expression of individuality through tonal combinations and texture.

Ticketmaster: What is the best thing about your job?

Godwin Hili: The best thing about my job is the fast that I get to use all of my God-given skills everyday. No one day is alike and that keeps me sharp and on my toes. There is never a dull moment in the world of fashion and retail! And did I mention the travel?!

Ticketmaster: How would you describe your personal style?

Godwin Hili: My personal style is fairly understated with sartorial edge. I’m all about feeling comfortable no matter the occasion. These days my go-to piece a cotton/linen sports jacket in shades of blue and grey. I also love combining denim hues and accent frequently with the simplicity of white. Great fit and feeling confident in your personal style goes a long way.

Ticketmaster: Can you tell me about one of your biggest fashion mistakes?

Godwin Hili: I am guilty of once upon a time (1999) wearing a Bugs Bunny novelty tie to work…EPIC FAIL.

Ticketmaster: Thank you for talking to us. Best of luck at MSFW.
