Ticketmaster New Music is your one-stop destination to discover the best emerging live acts before they explode. These are the artists we’re expecting to make waves in the live music scene, and we want you to know about them first.

They might only be 16 years old, but Sydney four-piece Erthlings have been making music together for half their lives. After first meeting when they were eight years old at the Kings Cross Conservatorium, they started writing together just a year later. Less than six months ago they introduced themselves with debut single Bridges, showcasing a sound that is both entrenched in classic sounds of the past and experimentally forward-thinking.

Now they’ve captured the attention of music fans and industry heads around the world. From triple j right here in Australia, to Apple Music Beats 1 Radio’s Zane Lowe, and the UK’s biggest independent music discovery website Line of Best Fit – you name it, they have given nods to Erthlings. What followed was signing to label and management team Future Classic, hosting one of the most densely-packed and talked about sets at last year’s BIGSOUND, and scoring support slots around the country. And that was all before they’d released their second single.

It can’t be said enough, just how important it is for a powerhouse quartet of young women to be taking Australia’s music scene by storm, and showing other young, budding female musicians that they can pick up an instrument and share their stories too. Big things are on the way for Erthlings, and they haven’t even finished high school yet, so now’s a great time to get acquainted.

The Story

From the beginning

We all grew up with a love for music since a young age, however, we started making music together when we were 8 years old at a music school in Sydney. We were grouped together, and the band was formed. We’ve always had a common interest in music and eventually, we all began writing songs together.”

What you’ll hear

We get asked this a lot and we usually say indie-pop, but we love looking at all different genres and we try not to define our music to one style. Given that we’ve only released two songs and we’re still finding our sound, it’s hard to classify our music at the moment but we love looking at all different types.”

Influences & inspiration

The list of influences goes on and on. In terms of music, we range from artists such as Lana Del Ray to DMA’s for various sources of inspo, even if we create a completely unrelated sound to them.”

For the love of music

There are so many things to love about music. We all agree that making music is a way to express how we feel and a way to discuss important topics. We’re only 16, so we haven’t had a huge deal of life experiences, but we try to write about the ones we have had and we hope to make them universal concepts that everyone can relate to. It’s also a way of bringing people together. We all had a love for music and being in a band has brought us all together.”

Kicking goals

We’d have to say there have been two biggest achievements so far in our career. Our first was the gigs at BIGSOUND in Brisbane and the second is supporting Amy Shark. We’ve come so far since our first gigs in Brisbane and we can’t wait for all the shows to come.”

The hard yards

Definitely balancing everything going on at the moment. At times it can be pretty tough managing school and band commitments and we’ve definitely struggled at times. Usually before shows we’ll be doing homework or studying, but it’s all worth it.”

The year ahead

So much is happening in 2019. All we can say is new music, more shows, and more content, as well as balancing all of our year 11 work. We’re a little nervous but so so excited.”

Essential Listening

Erthlings – Bridges

Their debut single is an absolute delight and caught the attention of music fans and the music industry in an instant. It’s upbeat, dreamy indie-rock at its best, with biting lyrics, breezy harmonies, and an infectiously catchy – and at times groovy – rhythm section. Right off the back, this four-piece promised big things.

Erthlings- Cuts & Bruises

On single number two, Erthlings showed a slightly different side to their sound. Hypnotic, pulsating beats carry delicate, floating vocals to create a track that balances the band’s dreamy and dark aesthetics perfectly.
