#VAXTHENATION: Australia’s live entertainment industry launches national vaccination campaign

Its time to stop the interruptions!

The Australian live music and entertainment industry are joining forces in a new campaign called #VAXTHENATION to encourage Australians to get vaccinated and get our live industry back on stage.

More than 400 of Australia’s biggest artists and performers have joined forces with leading tour promoters, music festivals, venues, ticketing agencies, record labels, comedy producers, theatre, opera and dance companies, media outlets, industry associations, peak bodies and global brands like YouTube and TikTok to launch the campaign.

Live events are an integral and important part of the lives of every Australian – whether you’re a fan, a performer, you work at a venue or behind the scenes of a theatre show, it’s fair to say the shut down of the national live music and entertainment industry across the last 18+ months has affected everybody.

That’s why #VAXTHENATION is bring the live events industry together like never before. The campaign is spearheaded by the newly established LIVE (Live Industry Venues & Entertainment) Alliance, which includes representatives from organisations including APRA AMCOS, Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), Australian Festivals Association (AFA),  Live Nation, Frontier Touring/Mushroom Group, the Live Entertainment Industry Forum,Live Performance Australia (LPA), and Secret Sounds.

But it’s not only industry that is getting behind #VAXTHENATION, so are you favourite musicians and performers. So far, more than 215 performers including the likes of PowderfingerJimmy BarnesTim MinchinCeleste BarberVance JoyPaul KellyArchie RoachGuySebastian, Amy SharkMidnight OilJudith LucyRÜFÜS DU SOL, and Briggs are also on board.

I want to experience live music again knowing that we can dap up, fist bump or hug someone without the fear of COVID-19 stopping us from doing so. Getting the jab for me means protecting myself, my family and my community

It’s like boxing – a few well-placed jabs can keep your opponent at bay – so let’s get the jab to fight COVID-19 so we can get back to what we love doing.

Please get vaccinated as soon as you can. I know you might feel some uncertainty, that’s natural… but being vaccinated could save your life and the lives of your loved ones. We know that. This isn’t hypothetical. This isn’t about someone’s feelings on the subject. This is a hard fact – we have the incontrovertible science. I feel so lucky to have been vaccinated. I think about the millions around the world who are literally dying because they didn’t have the opportunity. Whatever fears or sense of identify you feel in opposing vaccination won’t mean anything if you’re dead. –

I’m a qualified nurse vaccinator working on the COVID frontline. The thing about vaccination is that it’s not about the individual – it’s about protecting your community and those most vulnerable around you. I got vaccinated as soon as it was available to me without a moment of doubt or hesitation. I did it for my grandparents, for my sister who has a physical disability and 30% lung capacity, for my community, and for myself. There’s a one-way ticket to getting live music back, and its vaccination.

I’d like you to know how very much my colleagues and I miss what we do for a living as musicians. Our experience onstage while performing for you all is what I believe joy and great memories are made of, and it’s important that we all get the jab so we can get back to what we love doing! I am supporting the #vaxthenation campaign and hopefully through this we can all look forward to making music again soon

Australia has one of the world’s leading music and entertainment sectors. It’s not just vital to our economy and jobs; it provides a rich cultural fabric that connects us all. From sweaty pub gigs to crying with laughter at a comedy show; being moved by an opera aria or diving into the festival mosh; taking your child to their first live show, marvelling at an intricate ballet, or sitting with loved ones in an ornate theatre… these are the moments we all want to get back to.

The only way we can stop the interruptions is by coming together to #VAXTHENATION. Head to vaxthenation.com.au for further details and information on where to get your jab
