My TOP 5 Splendour in the Grass sideshows

Splendour in the Grass is renowned for getting the hottest acts on its line up every year. But if you can’t make it to the Byron Bay festival, don’t despair; some of the best acts have already been announced to perform sideshows around Australia.

Below is my quick guide to three of the best Splendour sideshows. I hope you enjoy it!

Jake Bugg

Wunderkind, Jake Bugg, burst onto the scene in 2012 at the age of 18, with his debut release of the same name. Hailing from Nottingham, England, his honest lyrics coupled with his folk/country/rock sensibilities, and his guitar prowess, make him a must-see come July.

The Cure

Having played new material at a show in New Orleans recently, The Cure will be one of the hottest tickets. Iconic front man, Robert Smith, will be bringing the current line-up including Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O’Donnell and Reeves Gabrels, to both Australia and New Zealand. With a huge back catalogue spanning almost 40 years, if any of their recent shows overseas are to go buy, you can expect to hear an eclectic mix of tracks spanning their epic history so far.

Leon Bridges

Leon Bridges has already wowed audiences in Australia, having most recently toured in late December 2015 and early January 2016 for Falls Festival, as well as some sell-out sideshows. Capturing the 1950’s and 1960’s era of gospel, soul and R&B music, Leon Bridges is a striking musician and songwriter. You don’t want to miss him this time round!

Jack Garret

New kid on the block, Jack Garret’s debut studio album ‘Phase’ is one of the best albums of 2016. But you don’t need to take my word for it – in February he won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award. Jack Garret’s a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer, who will undoubtedly be sensational in July.

James Blake

With a brand new album under his belt, titled ‘The Colour In Anything’, James Blake will once again be taking Australia by storm. James Blake’s fusion of electronic R&B, is what has helped him to stand out as a premier musician of the current decade. Having won UK’s Mercury Prize for his second studio album ‘Overgrown,’ his Splendour in the Grass sideshow will no doubt be brimming with both new and old(er) tracks.
