Circus Oz

Circus Oz will have your kids on the edge of their seats and then laughing in the aisles with their brand new show ‘But Wait… There’s More’. The performers of Circus Oz have been fine-tuning their amazing new show in their custom built circus laboratory in the heart of Collingwood. The result is a wonderful mix of stunts, tricks and comedy. The show features acrobatics, juggling, the flying trapeze, unicycling, the Rou Cyr rim, impersonations and physical comedy. The entire show is set to the captivating and original music of Circus Oz’s live band.

EJ Whitten Legends Match
Tuesday July 1 at 7.30pm
Etihad Stadium

The EJ Whitten Legends Game between Victoria and the All Stars has become a popular school holidays event and is fun for kids of all ages. The match at Etihad Stadium raises money for the EJ Whitten Foundation and men’s health issues, most notably prostate cancer. The Vics will be coached by Rex Hunt and captained by former North Melbourne champion Glenn Archer. The All Stars will be led by captain/coach Shane Crawford, who will be supported by assistant coach Terry Daniher. Other big names include Michael O’Loughlin, Dermott Brereton, Tony Liberatore, Shaun Smith, Daniel Kerr, Peter Burgoyne, Scott West and Matthew Lloyd.

Wicked
Regent Theatre

Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, is a captivating and colourful musical now playing at the Regent Theatre. Wicked follows the story of Glinda and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, long before Dorothy and her friends arrived in the Land of Oz. The show is full of laughs and amazing tunes that will have the kids singing for days! Wicked has family-friendly matinee sessions on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and group discounts apply for bookings of 12 or more. You’ll be green with envy if you miss it!

 Thomas and Friends Live! On Stage
Arts Centre Melbourne – State Theatre
July 2-5 – Various Times

Thomas the Tank Engine will be steaming into the Arts Centre Melbourne during the school holidays and he is bringing all his friends along for the ride. Thomas, Percy, James and Gordon star in the new show ‘Thomas and the Hidden Treasure’. The musical adventure features 14 life size moving engines live on stage. Your kids are sure to enjoy the 90-minute show and you can purchase the Fat Controller Lunch Box (for children only), which has sandwiches, fruit, a juice box and a delicious Thomas the Tank cup cake. Thomas and his friends will be performing at 10am and 1pm each day from July 2 to July 5 with an extra 4pm show on the Saturday.

 DreamWorks Animation Exhibition: Journey from Sketch to Screen
Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)

If your kids love the DreamWorks movies – and who doesn’t? – the DreamWorks Animation Exhibition currently showing at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) is just the ticket these school holidays. The exhibition ‘Journey from Sketch to Screen’ brings to life the characters from classic DreamWorks movies including How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, The Croods and The Prince of Egypt. The animation exhibition is very interactive and features more than 400 items including concept drawings, models, original artworks, interviews and displays. The DreamWorks Animation Exhibition is open daily until October 5.

 Geelong v Western Bulldogs
Simonds Stadium
Sunday July 6 – 4.40pm

It is twilight time as Geelong takes on the Western Bulldogs at Simonds Stadium on Sunday July 6.  It will be cat versus dog in the twilight match, which will be played under lights at Geelong’s home ground in the heart of their home town. Can the Bulldogs knock off the Cats at home? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Princess Theatre

Why not visit Anna and the King at the court of Siam these school holidays? The classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, The King and I, is now playing at the Princess Theatre. Starring Jason Lee Scott and Lisa McCune, this beloved musical is packed full of catchy show tunes such as Getting to Know You, Shall We Dance and Something Wonderful. Your kids will be fascinated by the beautiful costumes, elaborate set and beautiful love story. The Melbourne season of The King and I will run until August 17. There are family-friendly matinees on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and group discounts apply when booking 10 or more tickets.

 Silvers Circus
Shepparton Showgrounds
June 25 to July 13 – Various Times

Roll up, roll up! The circus is in town! Silvers Circus will be rolling into the Shepparton Showgrounds during the school holidays. This classic circus features all the old time favourites including a high wire walker, comedy clowns, acrobats, jugglers, magicians and a ringmaster who keeps the whole thing together. Your kids will be mesmerised by the amazing skills of the Silvers Circus performers under the big top.

 Hi-5 Live in Concert
Palais Theatre
Saturday July 12 – 10am, 1pm and 4pm

The Hi-5 gang is coming to St Kilda’s Palais Theatre for three very special performances during the school holidays. Mary, Stevie, Dayan, Ainsley and Lauren will have your kids singing and dancing in the aisles with their best loved childrens songs including L.O.V.E. and Making Music. The show will be full of surprises and of course Chats and Jup Jup will be on hand to keep the kids entertained. Hi-5 will perform three shows on Saturday July 12 at 10am, 1pm and 4pm.

 South Melbourne FC
Lakeside Stadium
Various Dates and Times

If your children have caught World Cup fever, why not give them a football fix with a visit to one of South Melbourne FC’s home games during the school holidays. South Melbourne will play three matches at Lakeside Stadium throughout the holidays including against the Port Melbourne Sharks on Sunday June 29 at 5pm, against Green Gully on Sunday July 6 at 5pm and against Hume City on Sunday July 13 at 5pm.
