Nickelodeon Slimefest

It’s time for slime! The kids will love Nickelodeon Slimefest, which is coming to the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on September 26 and the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Melbourne on September 28. As well as performances from Cody Simpson and Justice Crew, the kids will be entertained by stars, DJs and of course lots and lots of the famous green slime. This is one school holidays event not to be missed.

Sydney Children’s Festival

The Sydney Children’s Festival will run from September 23 to 28 at the Seymour Centre and offers unique and engaging events for kids of all ages. The 2014 offerings include Kapow, Still Awake Still and Twinkle. With so many entertaining and educational events on show, the Sydney Children’s Festival is a great choice to help keep the kids from climbing the walls during the school holidays.

Elmo’s World Tour

Everyone’s favourite little red muppet, Elmo, is on a world tour that will bring him to Melbourne during the Victorian school holidays. Elmo’s World Tour will feature other Sesame Street favourites including Big Bird, Zoe, Grover, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby. The Sesame Street gang will use the letters of the alphabet to navigate their way to amazing overseas destinations such as China, Zambia, India, France and back to Australia. The colourful show also features new and classic Sesame Street songs that will delight your kids. The performances will take place at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre on October 4. After the school holidays, Elmo’s tour will take him and the whole crew to Sydney’s Theatre Royal on October 25.

Silvers Circus

Roll up, roll up! The circus is in town! Silvers Circus is coming to Richmond’s Burnley Oval over the Victorian school holidays and it is an event you will not want to miss. World renowned Ringmaster Simon Tait will lead the amazing show, which includes magicians, clowns, jugglers, death-defying high flyers and football dogs. If family fun is on your agenda, Silvers Circus is definitely the event for you!

Monster Jam

If your kids are total rev-heads, Monster Jam is just the ticket for them! The enormous 5-tonne monster trucks will face off and destroy everything in their path. But these finely tuned machines are more sophisticated than they look; built for bursts of speed, they can reach speeds of up to 160km and generate between 1500-2000 horsepower. Monster trucks can also jump 38 metres and up to 10 metres in the air. Don’t miss your chance to get tickets for Monster Jam at QSAC on October 11 or AAMI Stadium on September 27.

Dreamworks

If your children are cartoon or film buffs, the DreamWorks Animation Exhibition at ACMI will appeal to them. The exhibition features hundreds of interesting items as well as interactive displays that will keep the kids occupied for hours. The DreamWorks exhibition features displays on classic works such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon.

State League Grand Finals

The VFL and WAFL seasons will culminate on opposite sides of Australia on Sunday September 21. The two best Victorian Football League teams will battle it out under the roof at Etihad Stadium at 2.15pm (local time), while the best of the Western Australian Football League will play off at Patersons Stadium at 2.15pm (local time). Both events offer exceptional value for money with curtain raiser matches included in the price of admission.

Wicked

Not content with their 13-storey treehouse, Andy and Terry are back with an even bigger treehouse and even more fun and laughs! Monkey… Journey to the West

The King and I

Getting to know… The King and I! The classic Rogers and Hammerstein musical is coming to the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House during the NSW school holidays. Starring Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes, The King and I tells the tale of Anna and King of Siam. It features many classic musical theatre tunes such as Getting to Know You and Shall We Dance and has been a family favourite for many generations.

Red Bull Flying Bach

Red Bull Flying Bach is crushing stereotypes and mixing classical culture with the urban art form of breakdancing to create a ground-breaking performance that will speak to a wide audience. Perth Wildcats v Melbourne United

The National Basketball League (NBL) pre-season is in full swing and this will be your first opportunity to see the newly re-named and re-branded Melbourne United as the team takes on the local team, the Perth Wildcats. Played at the WA Basketball Centre, the event is the perfect dress rehearsal for the clubs to try out their players before the season proper begins. The match will take place at 1pm on Monday September 29.
