Kasey Chambers is one of Australia’s most loved and cherished songwriters, and a lot of that has to do with her gorgeous debut album The Captain.

This year, that groundbreaking release is set to celebrate its 20-year anniversary, and to mark the occasion Chambers is heading out on what is sure to be a special national tour.

For this special run of shows, Chambers is set to reform her original band to play the album in full, alongside a set filled with the best tracks from throughout her career since.

Peaking at number 1 on the Australian Country Chart and number 11 on the Australian Albums Chart, The Captain also went on to win the 1999 Aria Award for Best Country album and the following year saw Chambers named Best Female Artist for the record’s title track. In the years since, it has gone double platinum in Australia.

The album also shot Chambers to international attention, peaking at number 49 on the US Billboard Charts and landing a track in an episode of The Sopranos.

Discussing The Captain back in 1999, Chambers said, “I’d like to convert some people with this record. I think it has the potential to prove that country music has a lot more depth and soul…” and it seems that’s exactly what she did.

Cementing her place in Australia’s musical history, in 2018 Chambers became the youngest female ever to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of fame.
