Jessy Lanza reflects on recent rise ahead of her Australian shows

Ahead of her Aussie adventures, Canadian R&B and pop star, Jessy Lanza, has been reflecting on her recent rise as a recording artist.

Kicking off her year down under, Jessy is still riding the high of 2016’s Oh No; her second album which received much critical acclaim. It was the follow up to 2013 debut, Pull My Hair Back, which first got her noticed.

In a new interview with Noisey, Jessy says she was working as a server and piano teacher just five years ago. “In between working those jobs, I was working on music a lot. It was a really busy time. A really uncertain time as well because I had a lot of hopes for the future but I really had no expectations.”

How is her former job helping her as a musician? She says, “I’m really lucky to be able to do what I’m doing. As much as I value what I’ve learnt from working as a server, I do not want to go back to doing just that. I’ll take what I’m doing now. [laughs]”

Jessy Lanza will be down under later this month, with shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
