Halloween

Halloween season is here and it’s time to get your spook on

"In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up in costumes and beg for candy..."

Whether you’re a pumpkin spice in everything kind of person, you’ve already planned your spookiest ensemble, or you’re just here for the candy, one thing’s for certain – Halloween is in the air.

Halloween isn’t just a one-day affair nowadays, oh no, it’s a whole dang season, and we’ve compiled the best events happening around the country to ensure you get your spooky fill before we tick over to November and Christmas season kicks in.

HalloQween (presented by Poof Doof)

Poof Doof are ready to unleash HalloQween, Melbourne’s biggest annual LGBTQI+ Halloween party. In its ninth year the event has found a new home, taking over Forum Melbourne – that’s a pretty big step up from its humble roots as a dress-up party for a couple of hundred Doofers. As well as a new venue, there will be highlights aplenty this year. Your hosts Joel Creasey and drag superstar Karen From Finance will lead the evening, with live performances from the likes of Aussie superstars Sneaky Sound System, The Voice finalist Sheldon Riley, Owl Eyes, and multi-award-winning Yummy – just to scrape the surface. Theming and decor will be as outrageous as you can imagine, so make sure you dress accordingly.

HalloQween will transform Forum Melbourne, VIC on Saturday 26 October. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com.au.

Mansion

Not for the faint of heart, Mansion is the ultimate fully immersive, dance theatre and circus horror experience. Breaking down the wall between performer and audience, you’ll be taken on an interactive horror journey of the senses – dive in, but only if you dare. Built in the 1800s, the Labassa Mansion has been home to Melbourne’s colourful Elite. With ghost sightings since the 1920s, this Mansion’s history is as dark as its lavish interiors. Newly widowed Mel Walker, her son Levi, and daughter Rachel have just moved in – little did they know they were stepping into a paranormal, torrid love story, laced with temptation, nightmares, heartbreak, and pure horror.

Mansion will open at Labassa Mansion, North Caulfield VIC from Thursday 17 October until Sunday 3 November. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com.au.

KURIOS – Cirque Du Soleil

Everything really is possible when you’re inside Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios – Cabinet of Curiosities. The famous Cirque du Soleil formula is, at its core, much the same – high-flying acrobatics, heart-stopping large scale theatrics balanced with smaller-scale thrills, audience interaction, strange and superhuman characters, music, and bold costuming are all in the mix. But Kurios is also a world of its own. It is a steampunk odyssey brimming with magnificent, otherworldy characters and creations – in the world of Kurios, your imagination is your greatest strength. Take a sneak peek here before stepping inside.

Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios is currently showing Under the Grand Chapiteau in Moore Park, Sydney. It will then head to Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com.au.

Evil Dead

If you’re a horror film buff, then you’re definitely familiar with Evil Dead, if you’re new here then let us give you a little run down on this ’80s cult classic. Evil Dead follows five college students on holiday in an isolated cabin in the woods, where they unwittingly release absolute evil into the world and are forced to fight to survive. Sounds incredible, right? What makes the film even better though, is the spine-tingling score courtesy of composer Joe LoDuca. In this special Halloween treat, fans will not only be treated to a screen of the film in a newly restored format, but a special, reinvented score brought to life by musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra alongside the renowned composer himself on keyboard. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Evil Dead will come to life at Palais Theatre Melbourne VIC on Thursday 31 October. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.
