Download Festival 2020 announce sideshows

Treat yourself to an extra slice

With another epic instalment of Download Festival storming into Melbourne and Sydney next March, now’s the time to start locking in your sideshows.

Jimmy Eat World (tickets)

Arizona four-piece Jimmy Eat World are returning to Australian shores for Download Festival in 2020, so we’re pretty stoked to hear they’ll be taking on headlining shows of their own. On their first visit Down Under in three years and in celebration of their freshly released tenth album Surviving, the band will take over Brisbane’s The Tivoli. The album has been celebrated by fans and critics alike, proving that after 25 years and ten albums Jimmy Eat World are still producing ambitious records filled with personal songwriting and hard-rocking melodies.

Sideshow dates:

  • Thursday 19 March – The Tivoli, Brisbane

Onsale dates:

  • Jimmy Eat World Fanclub Presale: Friday 6 December @ 11am (local time) until Saturday 7 December @ 11am (local time)
  • Frontier Touring Presale: Friday 6 December @ 12pm (local time) until Saturday 7 December @ 12pm (local time)
  • General Public Onsale: Monday 9 December @ 2pm (local time)

Deftones (tickets)

We already know that Deftones have recorded an album’s worth of new music, with frontman Chino Moreno confirming that the follow up to 2016’s Gore has been in the works for about a year and will definitely be out next year. Whether it’s released before their visit to our shores in March is still an unknown, but you can bet that you’ll be hearing a chunk of fresh Deftones tunes when they land Down Under. With seven incredible, boundary-pushing albums already under their belts, it must be getting pretty tricky to lock down a setlist. While they’re in Australia tearing up stages for Download Festival, the band have no announced two special, pretty intimate sideshows in Brisbane and Adelaide to ensure fans right around the country get to rip into their stellar live show.

As an added bonus, Baroness – who have recently released their new album Gold & Grey – will join the bill in Brisbane, because two huge bands for the price of one is exactly the (almost) Christmas treat you deserve.

Sideshow dates:

  • Wednesday 18 March – Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane (with Baroness)
  • Monday 23 March – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide

Onsale dates:

  • My Ticketmaster Presale: Wednesday 4 December @ 1pm (local time) until Friday 6 December @ 12pm (local time)

Ministry (tickets)

Industrial metal pioneers Ministry will bring their huge catalogue to Brisbane in March. With 14 studio albums under their belts since their inception in 1981 chock full of huge riffs, it is no wonder they have become one of the most consistent and prolific heavy artists currently on the road. But it is on the live stage where they truly shine, making this show one that is not to be missed. They’ll be joined by local up and comers Darkcell, who, since forming in 2012, have performed more than 220 shows, bringing their dance grooves and party vibes to life on stage all around the country.
