Australian Chamber Orchestra launches online concert series

Bring the orchestra into your home!

Working together with leading directors and cinematographers, the Australian Chamber Orchestra are set to launch a stunning season of online concerts called ACO StudioCasts.

These immersive films, streaming throughout 2021, are set to enhance the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s live performance by offering an experience that they have described as “transcending the visual and sonic capabilities of the concert hall”. So, get set to experience the ACO like never before.

Each concert film will also be accompanied by insights from the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Artistic Director and lead violinist Richard Tognetti, the Orchestra, and special guests.

Following their premiere each month, the StudioCast concerts will then be available on-demand so you can relive your favourite moments as many times as you please.

Australian Chamber Orchestra 2021 StudioCasts Program:

Rapture & Revolution – Premieres Wednesday 17 February 2021

The debut release in ACO StudioCast’s inaugural season, filmed in the grand Centennial Hall inside Sydney Town Hall, Rapture and Revolution, features Richard Tognetti performing Vaughan Williams’s ‘The Lark Ascending’ alongside Beethoven’s ‘Cavatina’ & ‘Grosse Fuge’. 

Bach and the Beyond – Premieres Wednesday 31 March 2021

Bach and the Beyond explores Bach’s timeless search for redemption alongside compositions by Richard Tognetti, and features a guest performance from the world’s greatest living flautist Emmanuel Pahud (recorded during lockdown in Berlin), ACO violinist Satu Vänskä on vocals, and Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie on guitar. 

Love & Transfiguration – Premieres Wednesday 19 May 2021

In Love and Transfiguration, the Orchestra perform Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks’ ‘Vox amoris’, written for Richard Tognetti, and Schoenberg’s ‘Verklärte nacht’.

Tchaikovsky’s Serenade – Premieres Wednesday 7 July 2021

Tchaikovsky’s Serenade celebrates composers who write music from the heart, featuring Tchaikovsky’s ‘Serenade for Strings’, one of the most loved pieces written for string orchestra, and George Walker’s ‘Lyric for Strings’.

Tabula Rasa – Premieres Wednesday 18 August 2021

Tabula Rasa celebrates one of the most performed and influential living composers, Arvo Pärt, and his music as an antidote to modern times. Written while Estonia was under Soviet-control, his Tabula Rasa – Latin for a clean slate – seeks spirituality and independence. Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony in C minor is a lament for victims of fascism and war, but also an act of self-reflection. 

Schubert’s Quintet – Premieres Wednesday 29 September 2021

Schubert’s Quintet features a star-studded ACO ensemble, led by Richard Tognetti, performing the composer’s String Quintet in C major, D.956, considered by many to be one of the best long-form pieces of chamber music ever written.

Beethoven & Bridgetower – Premieres Wednesday 24 November 2021

Beethoven & Bridgetower explores two musical soulmates and the reclaiming of a masterpiece. Featuring Beethoven’s mighty ‘Kreutzer’ Violin Sonata and Janáček’s String Quartet No.1 ‘Kreutzer Sonata’.

The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s inaugural ACO StudioCasts season will launch on Wednesday 17 February 2021. Subscriptions are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.
